Approaching your Master degree with applied research

You will study through lectures. tutorial, practical sessions, and projects.  You will  need to spend a significant of time working independently, reading and preparing assessments.  You will be assessed primarily by coursework, varying from a research-style paper or essay to programme assignments.  Each module usually requires two essays or papers of around 3,500 words.  You will also work on a significant research project of your own choice, where strong, independent and critical thinking will be important.

Career opportunities are excellent and the demand for specialists in this area continues to rise as companies become increasingly dependent on computers and the internet. On graduation, you will be equipped for careers that require in-depth knowledge of technical security issues. Potential careers include systems administrator, security penetration tester or information security consultant, and strongly relate to the roles of Information Security Analyst and IT Security Coordinator. With education to master’s degree level now the recognised professional level of competence, graduates will be better placed to pursue careers in industry, or to continue their interest in computer science through research at PhD level.

Delivery of lecturers and tutorials

The schedule is being flexibly arranged. Lectures and tutorials are scheduled over Friday evening, Saturday afternoon & evening and Sunday morning & afternoon.  The arrangement enables industry practitioners around the Asia Pacific to fly in Hong Kong to attend the classes.
